What kind of information?

I guess all of you have heard the saying, It is never too late to start something new?

This blog post can be seen as proof of that because it took me 15 years from reading my first blog post until I started this one. This will be a weekly blog where I reflect on what I have learned from following modules, Writing for New Media, Social Media and Society and Marketing

At this week´s lecture on Social Media and Society, we discussed fake news. That is a subject I think all of you have heard of. Although, I have read much about it at my home university, I learned something new this week. That was the difference between misinformation and disinformation. For those of you that do not know the difference, it is the following:

  • Misinformation: (False information that accidentally circulates to the public)
  • Disinformation: (Invalid information that willfully deceives the public)

With this knowledge, I began to think about this article from the Daily Mail that I read a few days ago. It is about FC Barcelona’s club president that is accused of hiring people to smear the clubs own players to win personal popularity.

If this is true, I think we all could agree that this would be an excellent example of someone using disinformation. However, this is still speculation, Barcelona later denied everything on their twitter.

To end my first blog post I would like to urge you to think about if you know any good examples of misinformation or disinformation.
