Writing online

This has been a very special week here at the University of Limerick. At Thursday we got to know that the university will close due to the Coronavirus. Some modules including this, (Writing for New Media) went online before that announcement. Even though this week lecture was online, I still learned a lot!

The lecture was about that we read differently online and it gave tips on how to reach out in an effective way. I found this interesting because I can recognise myself with scanning texts instead of reading every word. I think it is like this for most people. Writing messages that people understand correctly while scanning will, therefore, be important and challenging in my future career with communications.

I can not tell you everything that I learned from this weeks lecture, but here are some of the things that I will think about in the future when I am writing.

  • Use well-known words
  • Communicate simple and direct
  • Avoid hard terminology
  • Use of lists
  • Highlight important words

This was everything for this week, I hope you all got some tips that will be helpful in your own writing. Stay safe until next week, and do not forget to wash your hands!
